Ode.

Life’s greatest works deliver

Meanings temporal and eternal.

On the facade,

We carve our paths.

On the polish wheel,

We refine our skills.

Set out with an intention,

Imperfect and learning;

Yet upon completion,

Profound and stunning.

The same is to be said

Of our life endeavours.

Purposefully wander,

For every step is a wonder.

Time shalt pass,

Old age will come.

Like the Grecian urn

With truth between its arms.

Silent and passionate,

For it does not speak.

Classical and timeless,

For it holds true meaning of beauty.

Vulnerability.

Stashed away,

Like an old toy in the attic —

A forgotten classic;

An all-time favourite.

We learnt life without it,

When reality got in the way.

It’s time for a shift!

They got into the attic,

Found this dusty toy,

Unrecognisable from it once was —

An embarrassing reality,

Yet remains precious in memory.

Whir.

Counting each time

You made my heart race,

Like needles on the sewing machine,

Thumping in and out.

Fast and slow

Then turning the edges,

Whirring along the outline of us

Slightly hurting yet seals us complete.

Will.

All is still,

When I’m with you.

All I feel,

Are the layers you peel.

All will heal,

You’ll be the only best view.

Perhaps we will,

Down the aisle with your unveil.

Blind.

Cash we seek;

Glory we chase,

But man, I’d tell you that’s just surface.

Even with all the success

But our hearts misplaced,

It’ll be real doom

No matter what we taste.

But that’s really just a peek

At the consequence we’ll face.

“We want happiness,”

And that’s all we say.

Look at us now —

Alive but dead.

What do we have now?

“Blindness to kindness,” I’d say.

The Other Side.

Clank.

Another one of those hearts got broken.

Aching through the flanks,

Alone and solemn.

Me and you against the world,

Seems like it was just an old folk tale,

When there are ones against your fleur,

Hands in the pocket no matter bail or jail.

Try.

Sometimes I feel like I forgot

How to cry.

Sometimes all we need is

Someone to pry.

Sometimes I want to rant till

My mouth runs dry.

Sometimes all we need is

That someone to try.

Disregard.

Worn down facade,

Wall paint like feelings — they fade.

Her happiness,

He thwarted.

Her birthday,

He disregarded.

He wrote her a card,

But there was no cake.

He thought long and hard,

And said,

“It’s time to part —

A decision I’ve made.”

She’s scarred,

For 4 years less than a decade.

So dead in her heart,

But alive in her head.

Mere.

She only speaks

Of what she fears.

He only seeks

What he wants to hear.

Darkness forgets

Whatever held dear.

Perhaps when the sun rises

It’s when it all turns clear.

Leap.

Grabbed some gin,

And tobacco by tins.

Going for a spin,

After an awful din.

All I wanted was to win,

Gambling was my only sin.

Lost it all, not even a lint

Left for me, no hopes to pin.

I leapt – all I saw was blue and green,

“Drink like a fish,” says Jim Beam.

Forgetful I am, of yesterday’s dreams

I’m now just a fish without a fin.

Desperate and unable to swim,

Repaying my debt, my life cost a mint.

The last of my grin,

Now gone with the wind.
